GILL, YES I WAS IN THE 272 MPCO. WE WERE IN TENT BARRACKS AT FIRST AND THEN MOVED TO CONCRETE BARRACKS AT HEADQUARTERS ON OCEAN RD. LATER. MY PLATOON LEADER (PURDUE) WAS KILLED DURING THE TET OFFENSIVE WHILE TRYING TO GET THE NURSES OUT OF THERE VILLA ACCROSS THE STREET FROM OUR TENT COMPOUND. I REALLY DON'T RECOGNIZE THE NAMES YOU LISTED EITHER (STRANGE) BUT IT WAS A LOT OF GUYS THERE. I WAS IN THE TENT LEFT OF THE GATE AS YOU WALKED INTO THE COMPOUND. I WAS OUTSIDE GETTING READY TO GO ON DUTY WHEN THE SHOOTING STARTED. SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG TO ANSWER YOUR MESSAGE. I FORGOT TO LOOK THIS CONNECTION UP GAIN ON GOOGLE. TAKE CARE AND LET ME KNOW HOW YOU ARE DOING, AND I'LL DO THE SAME.

Pat,I think the thing about not remembering a lot of names had to do with guys being on different shifts,It took a lot longer to know the guys not on your shift cause you only would see them when changing posts etc.More names...bill Ondrejcik,Jim Brown(were in your tent)others...Dave Thompson,Nothrop,Beltran,Kirwaan,Bill"Ben"Benson(african-american guy,,was a body builder),,Corporal Lewis,Robilotta,Mulke(got purple heart for wound during fire fight that first night).Think I can recall some others too.I was in tent to the right as you came in through front gate. Was on Sgt.Hatch's group.Had permanent nights from Tet after that. Was on back gate at IFFV that night. We got back to 272 compound in the agternoon after KIAS were taken out.Soutar was guy who got killed on top of water tower in back of our compound at the wall.Got a bunch of pics.of Nha Trang, our compound and "nurses villa all shot up". Send me an e-mail.I put my "addy"in on this site.Just click on"Nha Trang"user name and it will come up. Gill

GILL, YOU ARE REALLY GOOD REMEMBERING A LOT OF NAMES AND STUFF. I HAD FORGOTTEN IT EAS CALLED ROBERTS COMPOUND EVEN. DO YOU REMEMBER THE POPASON THAT WORKED IN OUR BARRACKS? YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE THIS BUT I SAW HIM IN ATLANTIC CITY YEARS AGO WORKING AS A CLEANUP GUY AT RESORTS CASINO.WE KEPT STARRING AT EACH OTHER, HE CAME OVER TO ME AND AND ASKED IF I WAS 272 MP, IT WAS UNREAL. YOUR TENT WAS DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM MINE AT THE LEFT OF THE ENTRANCE GATE. I WAS ON MY WAY TO THE CORNER ACCROSS FROM THE KOREAN GENERALS VILLA WHEN ROUNDS STARTED COMING IN. I WAS THROWING MY OD'S ON WHEN I SAW A STREAM OF ROUNDS GO ACCROSS THE CAPTAINS VILLA AND OUR REC ROOM. ITS SO GOOD TO TALK TO SOMEONE THAT WAS THERE. DID YOU MOVE UP TO THE BUILDINGS AT HEADQUARTERS ALSO ON OCEAN HWY? I WILL LOOK UP YOUR PICTURES. UNTIL LATER, TAKE CARE. PAT (BEEV TO MY FRIENDS))

I was in the 272nd M.P.CO. Nov. 67-68 and was very close friends with Bruce Kale, Frank Beltran and Joe Kirwan. I also knew Benson (mail clerk), biggest guy I had ever seen at that time. My barracks was across from the French Villa which got destroyed during the Tet Offensive. I was guarding the rear gate to Roberts Compound that night during the Tet Offensive. I wish everyone the best .
