Served 67-68 was the mail man there in Nha Trang and was slightly wounded (Tet) by a South Korean shooting at a POW that was in the process of running across the intersection. Have always wanted to know who the fellow MP was who had light color hair and black horn rimed glasses that was doing a rather good job of choking the life out of me because a little piece of shrapnel had hit a small artery in my neck. I think the poor soul thought it was my carotid artery. After all we all got 10 minutes of first aid training in basic training. Some day I would like to shake his hand, thank him, and tip a beer with my fellow brother that helped me that day.
I bunked in the back near the water tower along with Walter Soutar and to this day I miss that guy. He was the captain's driver among other things. One of us had a electric blender and for some reason all we ever made were daiquiris. Lots of them.
Being the mail man I remember a lot of names but of course not the faces so much. I wish everyone and their families the very best.

The enemy bypassed my hotel- but I was trapped alone for 2 or 3 days during the battle dine the street.
After about 50 years I have begun researching who lost their lives that day on my street.
The Vietnam Memorial Wall search provided 7 names killed on 1/30/68 in Nha Trang, all Army:
Walter Souter - Army SP4. 272nd MPs
Richard Purdue - Army SP4 272nd MPs
Marcello Lofaro - Army SP4
Larry Millard - Army SP5
William Hurst - Army MSGT. Hdqs Co
William Ross - Army 1st LT. MACV 525th Military Intelligence Group (Reported to bevin sector Hdqs when it was overrun)
Joe Zamiava - Army Capt.
Can anyone add more in this battle and the lives list?

OK I'll try this again. First the guys referred to us as the dirty dozen because we were a group of 12 men from the south that came together we came to tent city first and then to the compound across from Robers's compound. This was Aug 67 then in Oct Bill Wilson, Jerry Page, James West and I lit-shuck to bong son most of the guys called me Riley because I didn't like the name. My first name is John last name Hensley. I wanted out of nah trang because they were working us to death. Sgt Sanders said Riley you don't want to go up there, you'll get shot, my reply was I'd rather get shot to death than worked to death,I'm gone.

Oh guys I remember a lot of men from from that tropical vacation that uncle Sam provided for us at little to no charge, in nah trang there wasa tall guy named Lukeing, and there was Millwood,Silas Neighbors mulkey, Bill Wilson,Jerry Page,James West, Billy Hooks, and some that I didn'the know their first name. There was Sgt John Sgt Williams lt.haugherty,Sgt deaquisto, and there was a friend named Lewis to whom I gave my guitar then there was Childers, he and I got arrested together for murder that we didn't commit but that's a whole story by itself, funny know but it wasn't funny then. It wasn't until I was in the national rifle matches in 1994 that I met the Sgt of the guard the shot the two Arvin solders on air strip.now let me tell you that that was talked about for several days. He was from new Mexico and I'm from n.c.and we met in Ohio, small world ain't it. You know I really don't dwell on the bad stuff over there but I do remember a lot of funny stuff and a lot of really good fellows.oh yeah there's Carl Evers from the bunker on two bits we met up in 2015 at the 272nd m.p reunion. "To those who have fought for it, Life has a flavor that the protected will never know!" Between mortars, rockets, RPGs, booby traps and bullets, there was no safe place in for a soldier in Vietnam. Remember your Christmas in the Nam? Mine was spent on an ambush patrol near the Cambodian border. 25th Infantry Division-3/22nd Battalion, Tay Ninh, Vietnam-Courage on the Mountain Free to Amazon Prime members- Over one hundred 5 star reviews- courageonthemountain.com Glad that you made it home brother!
