GIs Hurl Back N. Viet Battalion A Battalion of well equipped North Vietnamese soldiers - some of them carrying flame-throwers charged an isolated U.S. landing zone early Saturday but crumbled as the little camp's howitzers were fired at them like rifles. The attack on the 1st Air Cav. Div.'s Landing Zone Grant, about 45 miles northwest of Saigon, was coupled with two other unsuccessful assaults on American bases along Communist corridors to the capital. Meanwhile, Communist gunners opened up overnight on some 50 targets scattered throughout Vietnam. Most of the shellings were aimed at small military units, U.S. spokesmen said. Few casualties and only light damage was reported. Stars and Stripes
