I served with 261st in Phu Hiep and Tuy Hoa in 1968. Helped set up and operate the first MARS station in Phu Hiep. Then was attached to MACV Team 28. Along with James Bost and Mike Schmidt(?), we operated the Phu Yen province NCS for about nine or ten months.

I served with the 261st Signal Company at Phu Hiep. Left Fort Hood, Texas and went over on the USS Upshur ship. I think we arrived in Vietnam in March of 1967 a Vung Ro Bay. I was a Spec 4 at the time and was promoted to Sgt. E-5 later on. ETSed from Vietnam in September 27, 1967 and came back to the real world to Fort Lewis, WA.

I was stationed at Ft Hood in fall of 1966, took the train to San Diego with the 261st Signal Company and traveled on the USNS Upshur to Okinawa, Da Nang, and then off boarded at Vung Ro Bay to our area of operations at Phu Hiep on the South China sea south of Tuy Hoa. I left Vietnam around the end of January 1968 just when the Tet offensive was starting.
