I found this new site and I am also a disable Vietnam veteran with the 1/7 cal. from 66-67.
I would like to know why it takes so long for claims to be process. I file a claim in 1983 and it took till 1999 to finally get awarded service connected after going thru the process of the claim going to Washington D.C. to win the case. Which then was sent back to our regional office to rate the claim which they gave me 10% from 1983 to 1999 for a neurological disease which is deteriorating my nervous and muscle system. which I have been on 100% s.s. disability since 1983. I file a notice of disagreement in 1999 and then in 2000 I was awarded 100% service connected back to 1999. I file another disagreement in 2000 for a earlier back date for the 100% to 1983. I have not heard one thing from the regional office since I filed. I think that it is a shame that they take so long to process these claim they always say that they have allot of claim and it takes times. Well I just tell them that I been dealing with them since 1983 and I think that I put enough time and patience in and it's about time they finish up my claim.
In 1983 I was admitted to the VA hospital because I had a problem with walking and standing and to keep my balance. This is when they found out that I had this disease and the va doctor said that I would not returned back to work to file for ss disability and for service connected which I did I was awarded ss disability right away but had to fight for the service connected. I had this trouble while I was still in the service and when I got out I keep going to the doctors and they said that they thought that it was a form of arthritis but it wasn't till 1983 that I was diagnosed with my disease from the va which at this time they wanted to set me up with hand controls which the PT from va hospital said I did qualified for this since I couldn't at this time tell if my foot was on the brake or the gas petal and was not safe to drive this way. But when they found out that I wasn't service connected they said that they couldn't give me the hand control and to file for the service connected which I did. This is why I disagree with the 100% from 1999 to the present because I feel that I am entitled to the 100% back to 1983 since I was diagnosed with this disease and I have the paper work from the VA doctors and the PT that I did need the hand controls.
Why it is taking so long to get any answer from the regional office. I just feel that the Veterans are not treated right and they need to put people in their offices to do their jobs and quit pushing our folders from one desk to another
Sincerely,
Don
