Sgt of the Guard Every hour I’d ring the bunkers. It was comforting to hear the bunkers answering back with bunker 1, bunker 2, bunker 3, bunker 4, and bunker 5. But, there always would be that night when they answered back bunker 1,bunker 2, bunker 4, bunker 5. Again I would ring the bunkers back and would stay on TA 312 ringer a little Longer and the answer would come back bunker 1, bunker 2, bunker 4, bunker 5. There was no doubt that the guards in bunker 3 were a sleep. Then the hair raising walk down to bunker 3 would start, the stand to the side of the bunker entry and yelling to the guards inside the bunker in hopes they would awaken. If all else failed the entry into the bunker finding the guards weapons and then waking them up. I think that was scarier than any mortar attack or firefight I experience. MSG Neal (USA ret)
