Dear Mom + Dad,
This is the first time I have
been able to write in quite a
while. At least it seems like
that. I've been out in the bush
for a long time now or at
least I think so. Actually time
over here has little meaning as
far as looking ahead to anything.
I just live from day to day and
every once in a while I check and
see what day it is. When I got
back both packages had arrived.
The guys said that the light one
arrived on the 13th and the other on
the 18th. Believe me that I had a feast
when I got back.
Like I was saying about time,
I have been here six months now
and my rotation date is between
March 8th and the 13th. Also I believe
that I'm going to pick up Cpl later
on today. You said in one of your
letters that it seemed so soon.
Well if you figure that I have 15
months in grade it's a little late.
By the way, on the first page of this
letter I wrote on the wrong sheet,
that's why this sheet doesn't have
lines. It's 1:30 in the morning so that's
why.
Anyway if you remember when
I first arrived in Nam I said that I
wanted a pistol. Well I now have a
rifle and a pistol. It seems like that
at 3/7 you are allowed both if you
have a job like mine. Another thing
that I wanted to ask about is a
car. You said that you are going
to buy a 69. Can you buy 2 cars
with your discount. If not then
ask Uncle Hank if he is going to
buy a 69. If not then I would like
to buy a car through him if it's okay
with him. I checked with the PX and
their plan for buying a car and there
is a catch to it. I'll explain late what
it is but with it you don't save that
much money.
You also asked about my R+R.
I'm not going to take my R+R untill
November or early December. I figure
that I can spend $400 without any
trouble. I guess that's about all for
now except that if you have a
hard time reading this letter because
of the writing it's because it's 1:30 and
I'm pretty tired.
Your son,
Clyde
