I was with Company "C" 589th Bn in 70-71 and was stationed above the airstrip in the old company area...I stayed there for about 4 months and then they sent us to Kontum outside of Pleiku....I cant give any specifics on the bombing of the airstrip cause that was before my time.......sorry I could not help. I was with "C" company from March 68 to March 69. Heavy road equipment platoon. I ran a grader cleaning up the red clay roads.
We were sent to Utah beach in April to maintain Rte 1 out of Quang Tri to the hot spots in-country. Spent a lot of time at LZ Jane with Recon and 1st Cav. rotating through. Mines and snipers, but I was on a cot most nights.
We went south in November to someplace outside of Phan Rang. We lost Goodman in January to a mortar in front of our hooch. Anyone remember Bill Cummings (Mich) or Lee Borman (Wisc.)?
