Who thought up this routine? A 55 gallon drum about two feet tall filled with crap. Add deisel, check wind direction, throw match, stir with stick. That would make a great recruiting poster. Oh well, I did it at FSB St. Barbara. 255 Dkmjtf@aol.com <Dkmjtf@aol.com>

I also burned my share of latrine barrels and learned that a rag soaked in diesel works better for getting them started. Every once in a while some brainiac would put a little mogas in to make it easier to get started. They usually wound up wearing some of the barrel contents.
Hey, something had to be done when the barrels began to overflow and of course some of us were lucky enough to be chosen to learn the art of "Burning the Sh-t cans".

Fortunately, I never drew the shit-burning duty...we had some Vietnamese workers do it for our unit. Unfortunately, I was down-wind a few times and got a good whiff of the malodorous cloud eminating from the burning area just north of our hooches. Now that's an olfactory memory that will never go away.... you had to be there to appreciate it....and it always brings a smile to every vet I've mentioned it to. Glen
