www.arlingtoncemetery.net/s-star.gif [/img] The Silver Star is awarded to a person who, while serving in any capacity with the U.S. Military, is cited for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force, or while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party. The required gallantry, while of a lesser degree than that required for award of the Navy Cross, must nevertheless have been performed with marked distinction. Soldiers who received a citation for gallantry in action during World War I may apply to have the citation converted to the Silver Star Medal. #nosmileys

E-7 Ron Kane was awarded a Silver Star for his actions on Hill 996 in the Ashau Valley on July 11, 1969; however, Ron was wounded and hospitalized, and the Army sent him his Silver Star in the mail after he returned to the States, so Ron was unable to participate in the official ceremony where he would have been pinned with the Silver Star by his CO. The Delta Company veterans attending the 2002 506th reunion were determined to rectify this situation. MAJ(R) Gerald Curtis (LT in D Company in 1969) presents E-7 Ronald Kane a miniature of the Silver Star that he earned on July 11, 1969 on Hill 996. (L-R): Richard "Doc" Daniels; Sal Gonzalez (RTO), Ronald "Gumby" Kane; Jim "Bike" Hoyt (also a Silver Star recipient on Hill 996), Bryan Rapp (M-60 Gunner), and William "Frisbee" Farnie. The group is standing in front of the panel containing the names of the men who died on Hill 996

My Grandfather is/was a Silver Star recipient for his galanty in action during the D-Day Invasion. I have been trying in vain to find more info about his military service during WWII. Being from Saint Louis I know that his service records were destroyed in the fire of 73. Is there any one out there in cyberspace that can help me peice togeather the years that my grandfather would not talk about. His name was Sgt. James W. Wall, Awarded the Silver Star and The Purple Heart sometime in 1945, Landed at Utah Beach with the 4th ID. Wounded outside of Saint Marie Englise.
Please if anyone can help me, My email is invictus23185@cox.net or my Cell and Landline are 1-757-561-4123 and 1-757-565-2421
With Warm Regards, Robert M. Pasco
