Siege Broken by Viet, 1st Cav Troops A Vietnamese regiment led by armor reached the beleaguered outpost of Plei Me Monday night without encountering any significant Viet Cong opposition, a U.S. military spokesman said. He said the relief column was just outside the Special Forces compound and the only reason elements of the column did not enter the camp was because there was no room. The spokesman said that on the basis of incomplete reports the Viet Gong apparently offered no opposition from its dozen or more machine gun emplacements around the camp.
