I was in the Mortar Platoon of Co. D, 2/7th Cav from Dec. 1966 to Dec. 1967. Our battalion was in the Phan Thiet area at LZ Betty, Virginia, Bartlett and Judy the whole time I was there. They moved north in early 1968, shortly after I left. I recently heard from Glenn Blankenship, who was with 14th Combat Engineers, attached to 2/7th Cav in 1967. He asked me if anyone recalls an incident in Feb. 1967 in the Phan Thiet area when a detail was sent to disinter NVA bodies to look for documents that had been buried with them? Also about the same time, 2 guys from 2/7th were killed when they stepped on a trip wire that was booby trapped. Another trip wire and detonator were found attached to a 105 mm. shell, which we detonated. If you recall either of these incidents, please e-mail Glenn at grb@fuse.net. He needs help with a claim. GarryOwen!
