I was a Hospital Corpsman with Bravo Company, 2 nd Platoon, 1st Batt, 5th Mar Reg, 1st Mar Div. My Partner, another Corpsman, Bill and I had only had been out in the bush for about 6 weeks. We were trying to a really good job with the marines. We were aware of the dangers, especially booby traps. We were setting in for the night and our position was on the side of a hill. Bill suddenly said to me that he thought he had found a booby trap. When I heard him say this I sort of leaped from where I was sitting which seemed about 10 feet to get clear of the booby trap. At this point, he discovered it was not a booby trap and picked up a can lid and tossed it down the hill. Of course, this made some noise which was noticed by some of the marines and they told us to be quiet. Maybe it doesn't sound funny and very professional but the way I leaped from the place I was very funny after we talked about it for a long time. You have to find some humor in this place after a while or you could go crazy. We survived 7 months in the bush and never were wounded. This was the defining moments of our lifes. 314 Hello,I was in Army from1965-1967.Basic Fort Gordon Ga. Advanst Infantry AIT Fort Dix N.J. Tanined with 1/12 C co 4th Divison at Fort Lewis Wash.
