Dear Mom + Dad,
I recieved all of your letters that
I haven't been able to. In the last month
I have spent a total of 5 days in the
rear and right now I'm getting ready to
go out again. Ever since I started this
job I've been very tired. I don't get much
sleep and eat very rarely. It seems
that ever since the gooks started hitting
this hill and the surrounding hills we
have been on the move. I told you once
that our area was too big fo rus, well
someone finally believed us so another
battalion (2/5) came down to help us.
Even now we are very understrength
because K Co. was almost wiped out the
other day. Now we're sending out 2 companies
at a time to look for an entire NVA
devision. Believe me you read it right 2
companies and thier understrength at that.
It's getting bad because when I went out
with a reaction force to help K Co. the gooks
had already gone. I got there and I started
doing a job that I hate. I called in med-evacs
for about 30 people. All of them were KIA.
there they were just laying all over the
field and when the choppers came in it
seemed like it would take forever to pick
up the bodies and put them on. Sometimes
I just feel sick when I have to call in
med-evacs. It seems so senseless and yet
when I'm through we just saddle up and
move out looking for the gooks again.
I just wish that more people at home could
realize how rotten war is.
Enough of that fo rnow I just wanted
you to see how it is over here. As a matter
of fact read this to your friends and let
them know because the more that know the
better then maybe our work over here will
be appreciated a little more. Anyway tell me
is Nanna is there so I can write her. Also
if your going to send me that stuff you wrote
about I wish that you would include a pair
of nail clippers like the big ones you
have. I had some until my pack was lost
and those are the only type that do me any
good.
Your son,
Clyde
